Washington RCW 59.18.140 requires at least 60 days' written notice of a rent increase for month-to-month tenancies. New Jersey rent increases must be reasonable and non-retaliatory, and covered units remain subject to the Anti-Eviction Act, N.J.S.A. §2A:18-61.1. This notice applies only to the extent it complies with all applicable state and local requirements, including any local rent-control or rent-stabilization ordinance.
Fair Housing and Anti-Retaliation. This rent adjustment is not issued on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability, or any other protected class under the Fair Housing Act, 42 U.S.C. §§3601-3619. This adjustment is not retaliatory; state anti-retaliation statutes (including California Civil Code §1942.5 and New York Real Property Law §223-b) prohibit rent increases imposed in response to a tenant's good-faith exercise of statutory rights.
